🙏 Galilee Cares: Support During the Government Shutdown

During times of uncertainty, our faith reminds us that God is still in control. Galilee stands ready to support individuals and families impacted by the

 government shutdown with prayer, practical resources, and community care. Together, we’ll get through this.

OFFICIAL ASSISTANCE NUMBER: 2-1-1

IF YOU HAVE BEEN FURLOUGHED AND NEED RESOURCES, PLEASE CALL THIS NUMBER. IT WILL CONNECT YOU WITH LOCAL AGENCIES THAT CAN PROVIDE ASSISTANCE BASED ON YOUR SPECIFIC SITUATION, INCLUDING FOOD, HOUSING, FINANCIAL AID, AND OTHER ESSENTIAL SERVICES.

Other Assistance:

Central Oklahoma Community Action Agency (COCAA), The Salvation Army in Shawnee, and food pantries like the Mid-Del Food Pantry. 

The Shawnee Tribe  released emergency funds to assist citizens who are losing SNAP benefits due to the federal government shutdown. Citizens can apply for "Temporary Emergency Food Benefit Assistance" beginning November 3rd. The Eastern Shawnee Tribe may have hardship assistance programs, including emergency aid and the 477 program, and the Absentee Shawnee Tribe has social services for members. Citizens should contact their specific tribal nation for application details, as requirements vary. 

How to get assistance

Shawnee Tribe:

A state of emergency has been declared, and emergency funds are available. 

Apply for "Temporary Emergency Food Benefit Assistance" starting Monday, November 3rd. 

Eastern Shawnee Tribe:

The Health and Social Services Program offers assistance for various needs, including emergency aid. 

The 477 Program may offer emergency assistance, income management, and other services as funds are available. 

You will need to provide proof of tribal membership and a qualifying event, such as loss of employment. 

Absentee Shawnee Tribe:

Contact the tribe's Social Services department for assistance. 

The 477 Program may provide assistance with employment, training, and other related services. 

You must be an enrolled member and meet income and residency requirements. 

Important tips

Contact your specific tribe: Each tribe has different programs and requirements, so it is essential to contact the one you are a member of directly.

Gather required documents: Have your tribal ID, identification, and proof of the qualifying event ready to avoid application delays. 

Act quickly: Given the emergency situation, contact your tribe as soon as possible to inquire about the application process and available funds

We’ve gathered a list of local resources to help meet essential needs and provide stability during this time.

Food Shelves
Several YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City locations will now have pop-up food shelves for individuals to take what they need. If you're able, please consider bringing shelf-stable food items to help keep these shelves stocked and support our neighbors in need.

Osiyo,

Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and Deputy Chief Bryan Warner have declared a State of Emergency due to the federal shutdown, which has suspended SNAP benefits for November.
